Carnival Report 2004
On behalf of the Reading Community Carnival
Committee, I would like to thank all our sponsors and visitors for helping
to make this years’ carnival one of the most successful yet. Thanks to the dedication, commitment and hard work of a very
small band of people we were able to stage yet another enjoyable carnival.
The day was challenging, trying to juggle radio and
press interviews, stall holders, security issues, performers and the
procession, however it all came together, and a wonderful time was had by
all.
The number of visitors was up from last year, thanks
in part to the magnificent weather on the day.
Our aim this year was to open up the event to as wide
an audience as possible. One of the most prominent features of the Reading
Community Carnival is its appeal to children and families, and our
objective was to create as safe an environment as possible, with a wide
range of activities and facilities.
The other is the diverse range of cultures involved,
reflecting and celebrating the multicultural nature of the population of
Reading itself. The park was filled with the smell of BBQ’s, funfairs, a
children’s animal petting area, face painting, craft stalls, drinks and
information tents and generally the sound of people having an enjoyable
time.
This years’ procession was colourful and vibrate
and was enjoyed by onlookers as the floats moved their way along the
route. Thanks to all the associations, groups and community organisations
and who took part in the procession, and for helping Reading to keep this
cultural side of carnival alive. I know you all had a brilliant time, as
the procession took twice as long to come in!
The artiste on the stage again wowed us with their
performances, all giving up their free time to do so. We all sincerely
appreciate you taking time to come along to entertain us, and the feedback
is that all the performances were warmly received.
The list of people to thank grows each year, and if I
have missed anyone, please accept this as a personal thank-you to all
involved.
If you have any further suggestions, or feel that you
will be able to contribute in helping us to stage or sponsor this event,
please feel free to contact us.
